Week Beginning: 9th September 2024

NURSERY

What a fantastic start to the year! It is lovely to see that all the children have settled so well and are already bonding with their peers.

This week in nursery our topic is All about me, the children will be encouraged to talk about their likes and dislikes i.e food books and toys . They will be creating self portrait pictures as well as learning  lots of new number songs.

Please remember to activate my nursery child so you can follow your child's progress and capture their Wow moments, you should have received an email. Any problems please speak to a member of staff.

RECEPTION

We are so please that the children have begun to settle into Reception Class.

May we remind you of the times in your green packs regarding the last few days until the children go full time.

Please save the date,  Tuesday 17th September at 9am, for a parent meeting regarding our maths and phonics programme. 

We thank you for your patience as we get to know all the parents and carers at pick-up times. 

YEAR 1

In maths this week we will be working on one more and more less than a given number.  In english, we will be writing main clauses, using our phonics knowledge to help us with our spellings.  Just a reminder that PE is on Mondays and Thursdays and please make sure the Reading Record is signed at least five times per week.  The Reading Record needs to be in school every day.  Thank you.     

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be partitioning numbers in our Maths. In English, we are continuing our writing about our book 'The house that once was '. In Science we are learning about habitats and in Geography, we are looking at different weathers around the world.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we are practising out calculation skills in maths. We will be using mental strategies as well as partitioning and manipulatives to solve addition and subtraction problems. In English, we will be using conjunctions to join two main clauses using the text 'The Lost Thing.' In science, we are continuing our work around forces, focusing on friction. 

YEAR 4

In year 4 this week, we will be continuing our learning on classifying organisms into different categories in Science.  In geography we are using longitude and latitude to locate places around the world, and in maths we are looking at using bridging in out column addition of three digit number.

YEAR 5

This week, we will be revising our addition and subtraction knowledge, ensuring we can add and subtract numbers up to 4-digits. In English, we will be finishing our book 'The Lost Happy Endings' by continuing to develop our descriptive language skills; we will be looking at similes and metaphors. In science, we will be comparing the life cycles of insects and birds. Finally, in geography, we will be learning about Greenwich Observatory.

YEAR 6

This week, Year Six will begin to explore the text - The Red Thing during our English lessons. We will be analysing the characters and understanding their emotions. In science, we will be identifying different aspects of the animal kingdom. Your child will have a note in their reading record if they are swimming this half-term, this was stuck in their books on Thursday 5th September.
