This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 11th November
Week beginning: 11th November
Nursery
This week in nursery we will be following the children's interest in London Town, We will be discovering different sights as we travel on a bus through London, we might pass The Houses of parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Place, I wonder where we might end up.........maybe on a river boat up the Thames.
In maths we will be exploring numbers through different shapes, colour and size.
Our book of the week is Naughty Bus.
Reception
In Reception Class this week, we will be exploring the book about The Three Little Pigs.
The children will be using materials and through problem solving find out which materials are best for creating houses. In maths we will be looking at the story of 6, counting objects to 6, saying one number name for each item, recognise the numeral 6 securely and to form the number 6 correctly. We will also be talking about and identifying the parts and whole of 6. If you have any questions, please speak to one of the Reception Class team members.
Year 1
This week in Maths, Year 1 will be counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and solving word problems. In English, we are writing a diary entry, using our nouns and adjectives to describe a character from our book. PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure when you have read with your child that you sign the reading record. Thank you.
Year 2
This week, we have a very exciting week as it is our WOW Day on Wednesday! Remember to come in dressed as your favourite explorer. In maths we will be practising our addition skills by solving sums mentally and in english we will be writing a diary.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are writing our own version of our whole school text 'The Secret Elephant' using expanded noun phrases, powerful verbs and questions. In maths, we are continuing with our place value work and using our knowledge of place value to order and compare numbers including Roman Numerals.In science, we looking at natural and man-made light sources.
Year 4
Hello and welcome back to year 4!
Having come back and settled into our routines, this week are are really getting out teeth into our new topics. History is all about the Ancient Greeks, Science is about states of matter and how they can change and our R.E. focus is on Hinduism. We also have Art this half term which starts this week. Let's do this!
Year 5
In English, we are continuing our whole-school book ‘The Secret Elephant’ focusing on paragraphing and adverbials.
For maths, we are starting a unit of work on fractions. We will be exploring equivalent fractions.
Year 6
This week, we will be writing a letter asking for advice from our father, who is away at war, on what we should do to help the baby elephant - Sheila. We will be writing in the first person, using rhetorical questions, modal verbs and dashes. During our history lesson, we will be learning about crimes committed by the Anglo-Saxons and the harsh punishments they were given.
