This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 18th November
Week beginning: 18th November
Nursery
This week in nursery our theme is Real life superheroes, we will be looking at what makes someone a real life superhero, what jobs they do and who is a superhero in our life and why ?
Our story of the week is “Real life Superhero’s” and the children will be encouraged to use props and costumes to retell parts of the story and recall prior knowledge.
For maths we will be looking at numbers 1-10 , singing number rhythms and playing number matching games in small groups.
Reception
This week in Reception Class we will be continuing our topic on materials.looking at an alternative version of the Three Pigs, called The Three Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. Children will be exploring different materials for building and looking at the properties of each material. For example, it is waterproof.
In maths we shall be exploding the number 7 and finding the two parts that make the whole.
Year 1
This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be identifying number bonds to 10 and adding two single digit numbers together. In English, we are focusing on adjectives and nouns and writing a diary entry. Once you have read with your child, please sign the reading record every day. Thank you.
PE days are Wednesday and Friday.
Nativity outfits;
1 Elm - inn keepers - brown trousers, brown top and a tea towel
1 Rowan - angels - white outfit, tinsel, wings if you want
Year 2
Year 2 will be solving addition and subtraction number sentences in Maths. In English, we are continuing to write about our book 'The Secret Elephant'. In Science, we will be looking at carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. In History we will be creating a fact file on Amelia Earhart.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are beginning to look at fractions. We will be learning that tenths arise from dividing by 10 and that all fractions are equal parts. In English, we are looking at our sentences, how they start, how they link to each other and learning how to use paragraphs.
Year 4
In year 4 this week we are looking forward to our trip to see the Owls at Hall Place. With this following on directly from wellbeing day, it's (almost) like a 4 day weekend! In English we are moving onto a new book 'The Journey'. We are also continuing our exploration of the Hindu faith which we're really enjoying. The Ancient Greeks are fascinating and we are doing to delve even further into that. Some of us are moving up in our swimming groups this week. Et enfin, nous profitons de nos cours de français.
Year 5
Next week, Year 5 will be delving further into fractions thinking about mixed numbers, improper fractions, equivalence and fractions of amounts. In English, we are reading a new book 'The Barnabas Project' which explores themes around belonging and loving your unique self. We'll use this to improve our pragraphing and descriptive abilities.
Year 6
This week in year six, we are jumping to 1485 when the Tudors ruled Britain. We will be learning about the different types of crime committed and the humiliating punishments that were issued. In RE, we will be learning about the teaching of Buddha. During writing, we are beginning a new book - The Night Bus Hero. We will be empathising with the different characters and analysing their personalities and traits.
