This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 2nd December
Week beginning: 2nd December
Nursery
Our theme this week is arctic animals and the cold climate. We will be finding out facts about polar bears, arctic fox, sea otter, snow owl and arctic otters.
In maths we will be using different recourses to compare size, length and weight.
Our story this week is “The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud” and encourage the children think of additional words to describe parts of the story.
Reception
This week in Reception Class we are starting a new topic based on the lovely story of The Jolly Christmas Postman, which links in beautifully with our walk to post our own letters on Thurs 5th December.
In Maths we are moving onto the number 9, looking at number bonds which make it.
A reminder that Elf day is Wednesday 4th December, letters have already been sent out. Please ensure you read every night with your child using their sound blending books or practicing their words using their cards from the pack and return the home learning folders each WEDNESDAY.
Year 1
This week,in Maths, Year 1 will be Grouping concrete objects into 2s, 5s and 10s using manipulatives in order to count them efficiently. In English, we will be continuing with a book called Traction Man and writing main clauses using adjectives and nouns. Please make sure you read with your child every day and sign the reading record. PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure that your child has their Nativity costume in school ready for dress rehearsal. Thank you.
Year 2
Year 2 will be moving on to fractions in maths. In English, we will be writing a description of the moon from our book 'Bob, man on the moon'. In Science, we will be continuing to look at food chains.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are continuing with our work around paragraphs, using a wintery video as a writing stimulus. In maths, we are finishing our work around fractions and beginning to look at the properties of 2D shapes. In history, we are researching society in Ancient Egyptian times and we are using torches in science to investigate shadows.
Year 4
In year four we are busy preparing for the KS2 Carol Concert. We are also getting stuck into our art work. In English we are working though our week 4 spellings ready for our spelling test on Friday. We are doing some testing this week, we're going to be brilliant!
Year 5
This week, it is test week. We have Maths and Reading tests to complete. We are also finishing our Barnabus Project story in English. We are excited to see if Barnabus breaks out of the lab and frees himself and his friends.
Year 6
This week, we will be using secondary sources to help us decide whether the notorious highwayman - Dick Turpin - was a villain or hero. We will be learning about his life and that of being a highwayman. In science, we are investigating how light can be broken into colour. During our English lessons, we will be developing the techniques of using persuasive language.
