Week beginning: 9th December

Nursery

This week in nursery our theme is “Christmas” the children will be making their own Christmas card using a variety of materials and practicing their cutting skills using different shape scissors.

In maths we will be continuing to look at size weight and capacity .

Our story this week is “Waiting for Santa”  and the children will be encouraged to retell the story using props.

The children have be practicing really hard for the nativity and are looking forward to sing the to the parents.

Reception

Well Christmas is fast approaching, so in Reception Class this week we will be learning about "The Christmas Story. A great way to start is our Christmas Nativity performance  on Monday 9th December, where you can book tickets, details already sent out.

In our drawing club children will be using their phonics and maths  knowledge as they write initial sounds and words relating to our book Hansel and Gretel.

In maths we will be looking at the number 10 and the composition of 10.

Please make sure you read every day with your child and return All reading folders each Wednesday. 

Year 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be sharing amounts between different groups.  In English, we will be using one of our favourite books, The Stick Man, and writing main clauses, using the conjunction 'and'.  

Please make sure your child's costume is in school ready for our performances.

Please note, this week PE will be on a Monday and Friday,  Please make sure you have signed your child's reading record every day.  Thank you.

Year 2

In Maths, we will be learning about fractions - finding half and quarter of amounts. We will also be telling the time for o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

In English we will be planning and writing a diary entry, consolidating our writing skills by including the correct use of punctuation, noun phrases and conjunctions.

Year 3

This week in Year 3, we are looking at the properties of 2D shapes and learning about parallel and perpendicular lines. In English, we are showcasing our writing skills using a short film as a stimulus. In science, we are investigating reflections and how mirrors change the direction of light rays. 

Year 4

Next week is a busy one for year four.  We have a Christmas performance to watch, and a final practise of ours before we then perform to the school and to those of you with tickets.  It's also our final swimming 'lesson' of the set - essentially a class pool party! If your child is missing anything they have taken to swimming, please let us know as our collection includes, towels, goggles, hats, jumpers, underpants, vests and a lone sock.   We still plan to keep up with as much learning as possible in between the fun as we're not on the final straight just yet.

Year 5

In Maths this week, we are focusing on a few different areas that we identified as needing some extra practice in our recent assessments. This will include: statistics and negative numbers. We are also doing some work on time.

Year 6

This week, we will be using the book Dasher by Matt Tavares in our writing lesson to retell a narrative. We will be developing our skills of using descriptive language and sentence structure. In history, we will be learning about crime and punishment during the Victorian period and role-playing a Victorian court setting. Don't forget our Christmas Carol concert is taking place on Thursday and Friday this week.
