This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 27th January
Week beginning: 14th January

This week is Chinese new year, the year of the snake. In nursery the children will have the opportunity to taste noddles and rice using chopsticks and practice their cutting skills making snakes and lanterns.
In maths the children will be guessing the weight of objects and then weighing them to see they where correct .
Reception
This week in Reception we shall be looking at Crimes and Mysteries. The children will be detectives and try to solve clues. We shall be linking our drawing club story into this called Sky Private Eye and the Case of the Runaway Biscuit.
During maths will be finding one less than a given number. Please ensure you return all reading folders every Wednesday so we may give your child their new book for the weekend .
Year 1
This week, in English, Year 1 will be using the Story of Finn McColl, linked to our Geography topic, and writing main clauses, using conjunctions. In Maths this week we will be experimenting and learning about capacity.
Year 2
Year 2 will be moving on to fractions of amount in maths. In English, we will be going over the 'and' and 'but' conjunctions and looking at our new book 'Possum Magic'. In Science, we will be looking at object that are opaque, transparent and translucent.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are really excited to be taking our science learning 'on the road' with our trip to the Natural History Museum. In maths and English this week, we will be completing NTS style tests to assess our progress so far and in geography, we will be learning about the climate and culture of another European country.
Year 4
This week has been another busy one in year four, but we are building up to our D.T. project - those who have not yet brought in a box to use, please do so this week so that we can go ahead next week. Cereal boxes are ideal - thank you. Children are now half way though their units of work "Whooo - we're half way there..." but enough of the Bon Jovi - we are really impressed with the effort they have been putting in this half term with both their learning and behaviour, they are starting to really grow up! Please remember our focuses are timetables, and reading. We want to give out more books from the vending machine so we need more children reading at home every day! Any way you can practise times tables are great - not just times tables rockstars.
Year 5
This week is testing week in Maths. We will be doing some practice test papers and a little bit of revision to prepare for these.
In English, we are continuing with 'Swimming with Sharks'. We will be introducing relative clauses marked with commas, for example The teacher, who was very happy, smiled at the beautifully behaved children.
Year 6
Over the next two weeks, we will be taking part in our second mock SATs. This week, we will be taking our tests on Tuesday (SPaG), Wednesday (Arithmetic and Reasoning 2) and Thursday (Reasoning 3).
We will be continuing to learn about South America where our focus will be on importing and exporting goods and comparing these to the UK. In Science, we will be investigating the impact of adding additional light bulbs to a circuit.
