GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 31st March

Nursery

This week in nursery our theme is Easter/Spring and some of the children will have the opportunity to visit the local church and learn about the meaning of Easter.

In maths we will be measuring and weighing our ingredients to make some yummy biscuits and we will be reading the story “The Daffodil That Couldn’t Dance”

Please don’t forget to join us for the Easter parade on Friday and we hope you have a lovely Easter.

Reception

In Reception Class this week we will continue to explore the meaning of Easter with our Easter service being on Tuesday morning. The children will be taking part in an Easter Egg Hunt this week. Don't forget to make your Easter bonnets at home and bring them in on Friday 4th April for our Easter Bonnet  Parade.

In maths we shall continue looking at 3D shapes, please do 3D shape hunts with children and post them on tapestry for us to share.

Please continue to do your Spring garden homework during the half term and either post on tapestry or bring them in after Easter. Please remember to return all reading books by Wednesday.

Year 1

Year 2

In English, we are going to research facts about our significant nurses from the past. This term, we learnt about Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell. Using the research information, we are going to create a leaflet about one of them.

In Maths, we are going to identify 3D shapes and we are going to learn about their properties.

Have a lovely Easter break and we will see you on Tuesday 22nd April.

Year 3

This week in Year 3 we are finishing our curriculum topics. In history we will be learning about the iron age, looking at dwellings and daily life, while in science, we will be creating an information leaflet on the function of the stem, roots and leaves of a flowering plant.

In maths, we will be handling data and displaying it in a bar graph as well as looking at right angles and quarter turns.

Year 4

It was lovely to see so many of you and share your children's learning with you last week - thank you for coming.   We enter the last fun packed week of our busy half term with enthusiasm in year 4.  We have our Wow day on the Romans (can't wait to see you again) please send children in with cardboard for making their shields and swords.  There's the trip to the church to look forward to, as well as the Easter Bonnet Parade.  For those of you we don't see personally at the end of the week, we hope you have a lovely break and the weather plays nicely for us!

Year 5

Both maths classes will be continuing to calculate with fractions and practise moving between + - x and ÷. In English, we will be using our skills around relative clauses, conjunctions and adverbials to write about our wider curriculum learning.

Year 6

This week, in year six, we will be exploring the different ways citizens of Britain protected themselves from attacks by the German Army and the Axies. Part of this work will be used to support our learning when we visit Chislehurst Caves on Wednesday and Thursday.  We will be continuing to develop our use of emotive language when we write in our role as a mother when they learn the news that their son will be conscripted to war.   In addition to this, we will be focusing on accurate measuring, looking at scaling recipes up and down and calculating costs when making cakes.
